Earlier in April, Dagenham & Redbridge FC appointed Mashhour, a well-known Arabic-language YouTuber and advocate for English lower-league football in the Arab world, as the club’s Director of Development and Engagement.
Local media reports said her dismissal followed internal pressure linked to pro-Palestinian posts on her social media accounts.
The club said it “regrets any harm caused” to Mashhour and denied that her removal was based on political views.
The statement also rejected claims that she supported hate or extremism, and said the decision “does not reflect a judgment on her beliefs.”
“We respect the individual views of all those associated with the club,” the statement read. However, it stopped short of offering an apology or reversing the decision.
Her removal sparked widespread criticism online and led Serry, who had recently acquired a stake in Dagenham & Redbridge, to resign from the club’s ownership. He accused the club of racism and of silencing Arab voices, and said legal action was being considered.
