The exhibition opens on 1 May in Berlin, coinciding with Berlin Gallery Weekend, and will remain on view through 28 June 2025.
It will then travel to Galerie Son’s affiliate space in Seoul, with dates to be announced soon.
An abstract expressionist, Ghali (born 1937) is known for blending gestural abstraction with colour, and a unique sensitivity to texture and material.
Her paintings draw from her inner world and the cultural influences surrounding her—shaped by her early childhood during World War II, the breathtaking landscapes the Scandinavian countries where she lived in her early years, and the rich cultural fabric of Egypt, a country she has considered her home since the mid-1970s.
Ghali’s large-scale canvases are characterized by a poetic energy, brimming with movement and intensity, with a clear spiritual resonance.
Her latest works continue her lifelong exploration with colour and gesture, echoing the spirit of action painting while remaining deeply rooted in personal history and cultural symbolism.

Over a career spanning more than six decades, Ghali has worked across abstract and figurative modes.
In 1996, she was awarded the title of Knight of the Royal Order of St. Olav for her contributions to Norwegian art, a distinction shared with Edvard Munch.
More recently, in 2023, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Egypt’s National Council for Women, honouring her lasting impact on the country’s cultural landscape.
