Egyptian centre-back Mohamed Abdelmonem has promised to give his best to enhance his performance with French Ligue 1 side Nice next season, aiming to make up for the setbacks he experienced this year.

The 26-year-old former Ahly player, who joined Nice last summer, suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee during Friday’s 3-1 Ligue 1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Moreover, Abdelmonem missed Nice's pre-season camp and made just 18 appearances for the team throughout the ongoing season.

"I will do my best to improve my performance in the new season to make up for what I missed this year," Abdelmonem said in a television interview. "Ligue 1 is very competitive, so I’m focusing on my training to seize the opportunities I missed. My start at Nice was tough, but I’ve regained my confidence, and we are performing well in the league."

Currently, Nice is 6th in the Ligue 1 standings with 54 points, 24 points behind leaders PSG and just four points behind second-place Marseille, with five games remaining in the season.

“We aim to finish in the top four,” Abdelmonem added. “We are fully focused on achieving the best results in the remaining matches of the season.”

Abdelmonem made his senior debut for the Egyptian national team in December 2021 under coach Carlos Queiroz.

He has since earned 33 caps and scored three goals for the Pharaohs.

“We have some of the best players in the world in the Egyptian national team, along with a top coach. We have all the ingredients for success.”
