President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), Sahar El Sonbaty.
The incident, which took place at a school affiliated with the Damanhour Educational Administration in February last year, sparked widespread public outrage and condemnation across social media platforms.
The trial is set to begin on Wednesday.
Lawyers Amr Yousry El-Khatib and Ehab Adel Lamloum will represent the NCCM at the session to ensure the child’s legal rights and adequate representation are upheld.
In a statement, the NCCM reiterated its full confidence in the Egyptian judiciary and its commitment to protecting children and preserving societal values.
It also encouraged the public to report child protection concerns through its 24/7 Child Rescue Hotline (16000), WhatsApp (01102121600), or via its official Facebook page.
Case background
Speaking to Al-Shams TV, Essam Mehanna, the lawyer representing Yassin’s family, outlined the timeline of the case in a phone interview aired just hours before the trial.
“Yassin’s mother came to my office nearly a year ago,” Mehanna said. “She had already filed a complaint with the Public Prosecution regarding the assault.”
He explained that the case had initially been referred to the Forensic Medicine Authority, where a forensic specialist confirmed the child had been subjected to repeated sexual assault.
However, in February 2025, the investigation was shelved after police inquiries proved inconclusive.
According to Mehanna, the Public Prosecution did not proceed with a criminal referral due to insufficient evidence.
During a confrontation session, the child was able to identify the accused in the first two rounds but not in the third and fourth, which led to the case being closed for a second time.
An appeal was later submitted to the Public Prosecutor, who ordered the investigation reopened.
Education Ministry's response
In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry of Education confirmed that the case remains under investigation by the Public Prosecution and the judiciary.
It added that the Beheira Directorate of Education would take all necessary legal measures in coordination with the school’s legal representative and ownership body following the issuance of a final verdict.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to school safety and discipline and warned of legal action against any violations that endanger students.
It also urged the media and the public to verify information before sharing it on social platforms.
