The Damanhour Criminal Court sentenced the school official accused of sexually abusing six-year-old Yassin, a private school student in Beheira Governorate, to life imprisonment, equivalent to 25 years.

Yassin is a hero"

The assault originally occurred in February 2024 at a school under the Damanhour Educational Administration.

The child’s mother first reported the assault nearly a year ago. However, the case was initially shelved in February 2025 due to inconclusive police findings.

Recently, the case has resurfaced on social media platforms, sparking a widespread public outcry and drawing sharp condemnation in Egypt.

On Wednesday, the trial day, Yassin accompanied his family to the court wearing a Spider-Man costume — a touch of psychological support ahead of the hearing.

Before the session, hundreds of citizens demonstrated outside the courthouse in a show of solidarity with the child.

They raised signs expressing support for Yassin and his family and demanding the severest punishment for the criminal.

The signs carried messages like “Yassin’s rights must be restored,” “We won't give up on Yassin’s rights,” and “Yassin is a hero.”

A notable number of school students participated in the demonstration in support of the young victim.
