In an official statement on Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as a significant step towards reducing tensions and fostering security and stability in South Asia.
Cairo expressed hope that both countries will honour the agreement in the coming period and viewed the development as an opportunity to build mutual trust and fulfil the aspirations of the Indian and Pakistani peoples for peace, prosperity, and development.
The ministry reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, stressing that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable means for addressing international disputes.
It also voiced hope that the ceasefire would positively impact international peace and security, particularly in the Middle East, where Egypt continues to support US efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Earlier Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire after several days of deadly cross-border hostilities.
Trump congratulated both sides for resorting to "common sense" in resolving their differences.
Officials in New Delhi and Islamabad confirmed the ceasefire minutes after Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform.
The announcement came as the conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbours appeared to be spiralling towards a full-blown war.
Tensions surged since a deadly attack in late April killed 26 people in Indian-administered Kashmir, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-based militant groups.
