The foreign ministers of India and Pakistan, S. Jaishankar and Ishaq Dar, commended Sunday Egypt’s efforts to promote calm and support security and stability in South Asia, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

During separate phone calls with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, the two ministers highlighted Cairo's recent communication with both sides over the past days.

They also valued Egypt's strong bilateral relations with their respective countries.

During the calls, Abdelatty welcomed the ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, considering it a positive step toward de-escalation and reducing tensions.

He affirmed Egypt's full support for this significant move and emphasised the importance of prioritising dialogue, praising the wise decision taken by both sides.

The Egyptian FM also stressed the need to uphold the ceasefire, as doing so would help build mutual trust between both nations and fulfil the aspirations of both the Indian and Pakistani peoples for peace and development.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire after several days of deadly cross-border hostilities.

However, the ceasefire appeared to hold early Sunday, hours after India and Pakistan accused each other of violating a truce that brought them back from the brink of all-out war.

Tensions surged since a deadly attack in late April killed 26 people in Indian-administered Kashmir, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-based militant groups.
