The Ministry of Education announced on Monday that 11 new Egyptian-Japanese Schools (EJS) will open for the 2025/2026 academic year, bringing the nationwide total to 69.

The schools, which will begin operating in September 2025, are part of a broader plan to expand the EJS network to 100 schools by 2027.

The government says the expansion supports its efforts to reform and modernize the national education system.

Applications opened Monday and will remain open for 30 days through the EJS official portal

Parents may apply for children from KG1 through Grade 3.

The new schools will be located in Damietta (New Damietta 2), Sharqiya (Minya Al-Qamh), Sohag (Juhayna), and across several Cairo districts: Badr, Abbasiya, Sayeda Zeinab, Qasr El-Aini, Rod El-Farg, Ghamra, Zaytoun 2, and Tagamoa-Karma City.

The ministry said the new sites were selected to meet growing demand in densely populated areas.

EJSs are modelled on Japan’s Tokkatsu education philosophy, emphasizing character building, life skills, teamwork, and student-centred learning.

The initiative began in 2016 following President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Japan. It led to a partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to support 100 schools through Japanese funding and expertise.

The schools feature interactive classrooms, dedicated activity spaces, and a focus on holistic development.

Teachers act as facilitators rather than traditional instructors.
