In a statement released by the foreign ministry on Monday, Egypt expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the Ecuadorian government and people, as well as to the victims' families, and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
Around 80 Ecuadorian soldiers were carrying out an operation to combat illegal mining in the Ecuadorian Amazon when they were attacked by the guerrillas, leaving 11 soldiers and a militant dead, and one soldier wounded, Ecuadorian officials said on Friday.
