FM Abdelatty stressed to Hakan the importance of preserving Libya’s national institutions and allowing Libyans to lead the political process.
He reiterated Egypt’s call for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections “as soon as possible”.
The conversation came just hours after clashes erupted in Tripoli between rival armed groups, reportedly leaving a militia leader dead.
The two ministers also discussed efforts to end the Israeli war on Gaza.
Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s ongoing mediation — in coordination with Qatar and the United States — aimed at restoring the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, halting what Egypt describes as Israeli genocide, releasing captives, and ensuring the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.
They also discussed coordination between Arab and Islamic states to mobilise international backing for the Egypt-prepared Gaza reconstruction plan.
Preparations for an international Gaza reconstruction conference in Cairo were also reviewed. Egypt has said the event will take place once a ceasefire is reached.
During the call, both ministers reaffirmed their countries’ categorical rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians.
They stressed the need for a political resolution to the conflict based on the two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
