Egypt, Madagascar discuss closer military ties

Egypt’s Defence Minister, General Abdel Mageed Saqr, met with his Madagascan counterpart, General Lalamanga Delphin Sahivelo, in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss expanding military cooperation between the two countries.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Armed Forces, the Madagascan delegation was received with an official ceremony at the Ministry of Defence’s General Secretariat, including a military band performance of both national anthems.

Talks focused on strengthening military ties and coordination between the two armed forces in areas of mutual interest, emphasizing confronting regional security challenges and supporting broader stability efforts across the continent.

 

Saqr reaffirmed the “depth and strength” of Egypt’s relationships with African states, describing ties with Madagascar as part of a long-standing strategic and historical partnership.

Sahivelo praised Egypt’s role in supporting African security and stability and expressed hope for deeper cooperation in the near future.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, and senior military officials from both sides attended the meeting.
