Mohsen is part of a rising generation of Egyptians who are making notable contributions in advanced technology sectors. Shortly after earning her degree with distinction, she joined Princeton Satellite Systems, a U.S.-based aerospace R&D company.

Her path highlights individual determination and Egyptian youth's broader potential in cutting-edge global industries.

Ahram Online spoke with her about her academic background, entry into the space sector, participation in the NewSpace Africa Conference, and her vision for Egypt’s future in space technology

Ahram Online: Could you begin by telling us about your academic background and field of study?

Layla Mohsen: I recently graduated from AUC with a bachelor's degree in computer science, earning highest honours and a top 10 percent academic achievement award from the School of Science and Engineering.

AO: What are the company’s core specializations within the space sector, and what are your responsibilities there?

LM: Princeton Satellite Systems is an aerospace research and development company focused on power electronics and advanced software for spacecraft.

I am a software developer, contributing to simulations and control systems for electromagnetic launchers and machine-learning applications for power electronics.

AO: How would you describe your experience attending the NewSpace Africa Conference in Cairo alongside the company’s president?

LM: It was an incredible experience. I was beyond happy to attend the NewSpace Africa Conference. I felt so proud of Egypt’s progress in the space industry. The event brought together amazing people from around the world — and I even met the US ambassador!

AO: How did you and your company’s leadership assess the organization of this year’s exhibition by the Egyptian Space Agency?

LM: My boss, Mr. Michael Paluszek, the president of Princeton Satellite Systems, and I were both very impressed.

He said it was one of the most productive conferences he had ever attended. We made excellent connections with several companies.

AO: Finally, what are your long-term ambitions in the space sector?

LM: I want to be at the forefront of space technology, especially propulsion.

I’m passionate about developing cleaner, more sustainable ways to reach space.

I also hope our work leads to Princeton Satellite Systems opening offices in Egypt and hiring local talent.

I couldn’t have imagined I’d be here a year ago — I want to inspire more Egyptians to follow their dreams in this field.
