The cabinet approved the exhibition during its weekly meeting on Wednesday. It noted that 250 antiquities would be displayed in response to a request submitted by the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
The 250 antiquities, drawn from major museums and archaeological sites across Egypt—including a leading selection of 196 pieces from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (EMC)—highlight the richness of ancient Egyptian civilisation to a global audience.
Since its opening in 1902 as the first purpose-built museum in the Middle East, the EMC has held a unique position globally. It houses iconic artefacts that span over 5,000 years.
Egypt’s wider push to promote its heritage abroad includes the touring Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs Exhibition, which opened in Tokyo in March.
The global success of such exhibitions underscores Egypt’s strategy of cultural diplomacy and boosting inbound tourism through international showcases.
This effort also includes the inauguration of the Egyptian pavilion at the 28th East Mediterranean International Tourism & Travel Exhibition (EMITT) 2025 expo in Istanbul in February.
Inspired by ancient temple architecture, the pavilion drew significant attention and highlighted Egypt’s rich heritage to international audiences.
