Salah, 32, leads the PL’s scoring charts with 28 goals from 36 appearances this season, five ahead of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
The star also helped Liverpool secure the English Premier League title this season, finishing 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal last April with just four games remaining.
Moreover, the shortlist includes Liverpool’s defensive midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
Other contenders for the prestigious award include Man City’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood.
The trio of Liverpool players are in the running after playing key roles in the club’s title-winning campaign, which saw them crowned champions in April with four games to spare.
Salah, who also won the Player of the Season award in 2017-2018, could claim the honour for a second time.
Voting for the award will open on Monday, 19 May, and the winner will be announced on 24 May.
