"The club would like to thank the technical staff headed by coach Papavasiliou for their efforts with the team in the last period, wishing them all the best in their next step," the club said via their Facebook page.
The 54-year-old Papavasiliou's dismissal comes just a few hours after Friday's significant 4-0 home loss to league rivals Gouna in the 7th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League relegation round.
The loss to Gouna deepened the woes of El-Mahalla, which is battling to avoid relegation. They currently lie in 8th place in the relegation round, just one place below the bottom with 21 points.
Earlier in February, El-Mahalla announced the reappointment of their former coach Papavasileiou after parting ways with veteran coach Shawky Gharib. Papavasileiou previously guided the team from September 2022 to January 2023.
The second Mahalla stint of Papavasileiou, who previously coached Egyptian clubs Wadi Degla, NBE Club, and Ittihad of Alexandria, wasn't so successful. Under his guidance, the team played 14 games in different competitions, winning five, drawing once, and losing the remaining eight.
The team was also eliminated from the Egypt Cup quarterfinals and has struggled recently in the League's relegation round, securing just a single victory out of seven matches played so far.
The club hasn't announced the name of the team's new coach yet.
