RS Berkane beat Simba SC to edge closer to CAF Confederation Cup title

Morocco’s RS Berkane secured a 2-0 home victory over Tanzania’s Simba SC in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final on Saturday, putting them in a strong position ahead of the return leg.

The hosts made a fast start, taking the lead in the eighth minute when Mamadou Camara headed in from close range.

Oussama Lamlaoui doubled the advantage six minutes later, firing a right-footed shot into the bottom-right corner from the centre of the box.

Simba were forced into an early substitution in the 23rd minute when Che Malone replaced Abdulrazack Hamza due to injury.

RS Berkane advanced to the final after defeating Algeria’s CS Constantine 4-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals, while Simba edged past South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC with a 1-0 aggregate win.

The second leg will be played on 25 May at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
