"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his official inauguration as the Pope of the Vatican," El-Sisi wrote on his official Facebook page.
The president further affirmed that Egypt, at both the leadership and popular levels, greatly appreciates the Vatican's vital role in fostering global peace and tolerance.
"Egypt, both its leadership and people, holds in the highest regard the Vatican's pivotal role in advancing the values of tolerance and peace across the globe."
"I sincerely wish His Holiness Pope Leo XIV great success in his noble humanitarian mission," the Egyptian president wrote.
Pope Leo XIV celebrated his inaugural mass in St Peter's Square earlier Sunday. He succeeded Pope Francis, who died on 21 April after 12 years as pontiff.
