The Cairo giants have faced multiple transfer bans from world football’s governing body, FIFA, over the past two years due to their failure to settle financial obligations to former coaches and players.
“On Monday, Zamalek sent the dues of former coach Pacheco, estimated at one million euros,” the club said in a statement.
The club was ordered to pay 819 000 euros to the Portuguese coach who managed Zamalek between September 2020 to March 2021
n 5 May, Zamalek were hit with a fresh transfer ban by FIFA for failing to pay compensation owed to Pacheco, adding to a growing list of financial sanctions against the club.
FIFA imposed the latest ban for three transfer windows, even as Zamalek remained under a separate sanction over unpaid dues to former Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaib.
Zamalek recently managed to settle Boutaib’s dues before resolving the issue with Pacheco.
“The board has managed to close this issue, which lasted several seasons. With Boutaib’s dues now also paid, FIFA is expected to lift the ban within the coming few days, allowing the club to register new players starting next month,” the statement added.
Zamalek currently sit third in the Egyptian Premier League table with 41 points after six games in the playoff stage, with two matches remaining. They trail leaders Ahly by 14 points, although Ahly have played one game more.
