According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi stressed the importance of pursuing long-term political solutions to the India–Pakistan conflict to ensure regional security in South Asia.
Sharif thanked El-Sisi for Egypt’s diplomatic support in reducing tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours and praised Cairo’s broader role in promoting regional and international stability.
India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on 10 May following several days of cross-border clashes, which had reignited fears of open conflict after an April attack in Indian-administered Kashmir left 26 dead.
The two leaders also discussed the Israeli war on Gaza, reiterating calls for an immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian access.
They backed the Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza’s post-war recovery, prepared by Egypt, and urged its swift implementation to ease the humanitarian crisis.
Both sides also underscored the need for joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and discussed ways to deepen economic and investment ties between Egypt and Pakistan.
