Egypt hails global stance shift toward rejecting Israeli crimes, recognizing Palestine

Egypt hailed on Thursday "the notable shift" in the positions of key international parties, who are now entirely rejecting the disgraceful Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the use of brutal military force against innocent, unarmed Palestinians, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement also condemned the Israeli policy of weaponizing starvation against the Palestinian people, which is unparalleled in the history of international conflicts.

Cairo said the shift in global stance has been evident in several recent moves, including the joint statement by the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, and Canada and the European Union's decision to review Israel’s compliance with Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which links bilateral ties to respect for human rights.

The statement said the current steps are paving the way for more countries to jointly recognize the State of Palestine.

The ministry noted that several countries are now moving toward a joint recognition of the State of Palestine — a step Egypt considers both rightful and long-overdue alignment by the international community in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

"These developments mark the foundation for a broader international movement that is needed to correct the course and put an end to Israel's long-standing record of violations against the Palestinians," the statement read.

Egypt expressed its support for these steps and its aspiration for further measures aimed at ending the Israeli war on Gaza.

It also urged other countries to join this movement to strengthen the credibility of the rules-based international system and reinforce the universality of the principles of international humanitarian law.

Moreover, the ministry highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts in all regional and international forums to address the root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, namely, Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories and the systematic denial of Palestinian rights.

It reiterated that these efforts are focused on securing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Egypt also emphasized that implementing the two-state solution is the only path to restoring stability, security, and lasting peace in the Middle East.

"A future built on peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and equal rights is the optimal path for the region to embark on new horizons of prosperity and integration," the statement concluded.
