Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah said he hopes to continue playing until the age of 39 or 40 and commented on a possible move to the Saudi Pro League.

In an interview with Egyptian broadcaster Ontime Sports late on Sunday, Salah also discussed the differences between Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot and his long-time former manager Jürgen Klopp.

“I hope to play until I’m 39 or 40,” said the 32-year-old, who signed a contract extension with Liverpool in April 2025, keeping him at Anfield for another two seasons.

Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, became one of the club’s all-time top scorers under Klopp, who departed at the end of the 2023–24 season after nearly a decade in charge.

“There are differences between Slot and Klopp,” Salah said. “I prefer working with Slot more because he gives you more space to communicate.”

Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot for the fourth time on Sunday, equalling the record held by former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.

He scored 29 goals this season, including the equaliser in a 1–1 draw with Crystal Palace as Liverpool celebrated a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.

“I didn’t expect Liverpool to win the Premier League, but after a few games, I realised we had a real chance,” he said.

Contract talks and Saudi interest

Salah confirmed he had lengthy contract talks with Liverpool before agreeing to extend his stay and acknowledged interest from the Saudi Pro League.

“If I hadn’t reached an agreement with Liverpool, I would have joined the Saudi League,” he said. “I’m still in contact with them.”

However, he denied links to other major European clubs. “I wasn’t in contact with Real Madrid or Barcelona,” he said.

He also mentioned preparing signature goal celebrations in advance, including his “selfie” and “yoga” celebrations.

Reflections on Egypt career

Salah also reflected on his time with the Egyptian national team, including their qualification for the 2018 World Cup under Argentine coach Hector Cuper.

“Cuper is one of the best coaches to work in Egypt. He did his best and got the most out of the squad’s capabilities,” Salah said.
