Thurs 29, 11am: “Beyond Nostalgia: Histories and Archives of Italian Subalterns in Egypt (1864-1937)” lecture is organized by BA through the Alexandria and Mediterranean Studies Centre (ACSMM), in cooperation with the Honorary Italian Consulate in Alexandria. The lecture discusses a research project aimed at analyzing the social history of the Italian community in Egypt between 1864 and 1937, by studying the civil and criminal case documents of the Italian consular courts in Cairo and Alexandria, which are kept in the historical diplomatic archives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speakers: Associate Prof. Francesca Biancani, Dr. Constantino Paonisa from the University of Bologna, Dr. Constanza Lizzi, Associate Prof. Maria Chiara Rioli, and Prof. Matteo Al-Kalak from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The lecture is open to the public in English with Arabic interpretation.
