Ali El-Haggar has been one of the best-known veteran singers in Egypt and the Arab world over the past four decades.
His songs carry lyrics drawn from the poetry of Salah Jahin, Abdel-Rahman El-Abnoudy, and Sayed Hegab to music by the country's most renowned composers, such as Baligh Hamdy, Sayed Mekkawy, and Omar Khairat.
His most popular hits include Arfa (Do You Know?), Hona Al-Qahera (Here is Cairo), and Dehket Al-Masageen (The Prisoners’ Laughter).

Wednesday 28, Thursday 29, and Saturday 31 May will bring several new films to movie theatres across Egypt:

Um Kolthoum's hologram - music

The "Sot W Sora" concert conducted by Ehab Abdel-Hamid will feature singer Marwa Nagy.
This will mark Nagy’s debut feature in Um Kolthoum’s hologram concert.
Um Kolthoum's (1898-1975) three-dimensional show was first demonstrated in Egypt at the Cairo Opera House in 2020.
Known in Egypt as El-Sett (The Lady), Um Kolthoum's deep, resonant voice enthralled the Arab world for decades, with a career that flourished with a repertoire of religious, patriotic, and sentimental songs and poetry.
Folklorita - music

Folklorita presents covers of songs from the Egyptian heritage.
The group, which consists of 17 performers, relies mainly on voices, percussive instruments, tabla, doholla, and daff, as well as other musicians.
Folklorita’s first concert was in March 2024, and the group has performed at many venues in Egypt ever since.
They have also performed during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Alexandria Short Film Festival.
Arab Music Concert - music

The ensemble will feature works by renowned Algerian singer Warda and Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdy.
The evening will feature several singers: Eman Abdel-Ghany, Yasser Saeed, Sara Zaky, and Mohamed Mohsen.
Warda and Hamdy formed one of the most iconic musical duos in the Arab world during the 1960s and 1970s.
Their collaboration produced many timeless hits, with Hamdi composing some of Warda’s most famous songs, such as Wahashtoony, Tab Wana Maly, Khaleek Hena, Law Saalook, Hekayty Ma El-Zaman, and Dandana.
Bint Shoubra - music

Bint Shoubra is a tribute night to renowned 20th century French-Italian artist Dalida, who was born and raised in Shoubra district in Cairo.
Throughout her career, Dalida maintained a strong connection to Egyptian culture. The multilingual artist recorded several Arabic songs, including Helwa Ya Baladi and Salma Ya Salama, which remain iconic and celebrated in Egypt.
Conducted by Nayer Nagui, the concert will feature Lebanese singer Mirva Kadi, with a guest appearance by Egyptian singer Haidy Moussa.
Omar Khairat - music

Born in 1947, the multi-award-winning Khairat is one of the top musicians in the Arab world. His repertoire includes hundreds of memorized compositions.
Throughout his long and successful career, he has written scores for numerous films and television series, including The Sixth Day (1984), The Terrorist (1993), Mafia (2002), Girls' Love (2003), The Embassy in the Building (2005), and Deer’s Blood (2006), to name but a few.
His concerts in Egypt and across the Arab world are usually fully booked weeks ahead of time.
His large fan base sings and hums along to compositions like Heya Di El-Hayah, Fi Hawid El Leil, Arabian Rhapsody, Fiha Haga Helwa, Eadam Mayet, El-Khawaga Abdel-Kader, Giran El-Hana, Saber, Arfa, Qadeyet Am Ahmed, Khali Balak Men Aklak, and other classic hits of time-honoured TV and film themes.
Disco Misr - music

The electronic Arab-pop band Disco Misr will launch their new album 9 Tla2y, which is their ninth remix album, with a concert.
Disco Misr was formed in the mid-2010s by an Egyptian electronic music group consisting of two DJs and one VJ (visual jockey).
The band represent new Arabic pop, relying on its original fusions of electronic music, house, nu-disco, and punk music with Arabic tunes, many of which are well known to listeners.
Mai Farouk - music

Born in Cairo in 1982, Mai Farouk exhibited vocal talent at eight.
Supported by her parents, she joined the Selim Sehab Choir at the Cairo Opera House.
Farouk built a strong fan base in Egypt and the Arab world.
She has received critical acclaim for her unique interpretations of Um Kalthoum's songs, especially the song Enta Omri.
The ensemble will be led by maestro Mostafa Helmy.
What Have The Years Done To Us - theatre

What Have The Years Done To Us is a play about a modern couple who attempt to communicate their feelings towards each other in different stages of their relationship, with the significant presence of their inner voices in the room.
The play explores the contrast between what we think and what we say in the context of love and relationships.
