The joint statement came in response to rumours circulating on social media platforms allegedly warning of an epidemic among poultry

The rumours were fueled by circulated previous statements by the Poultry Producers Union's vice president and official spokesperson on the death of 30 percent of poultry in farms due to an epidemic outbreak.

Later, the vice president submitted his resignation following a recent controversy over his statements and the denial issued by the union's president.

According to Thursday's statement, health authorities investigated over 100,000 alerts this year, including around 3,500 reports referred to the Veterinary Authority.

The statement said no confirmed cases of a viral outbreak in poultry were found.

Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture inspected nearly 3,500 farms nationwide, housing over 22 million birds, and reported that infection rates did not exceed three percent, which is within the normal level.

Suspected samples tested at the national poultry lab confirmed stable conditions, it added.

Officials emphasized that Egypt is nearly self-sufficient in poultry production, with annual output reaching about 1.5 billion birds and 15 billion eggs.

More than 4.5 million birds have been vaccinated in 2025 as part of ongoing disease surveillance.

The two ministries urged citizens to follow health guidelines when handling poultry and to report concerns via the Agriculture Ministry’s hotline: 19561.
