The stunning goal of Egyptian winger Omar Marmoush scored in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth during the 37th matchday of the English Premier League on 20 May has been voted the 2024/25 Guinness Goal of the Season.

Just fourteen minutes into the first half, the 26-year-old forward opened the scoring for the Citizens after he received a precise pass from Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic, he unleashed a right-footed long-range rocket, sending a looping, dipping strike into the top-left corner of the net.

Marmoush’s goal marked a significant comeback for him after a six-game drought, especially after he missed a crucial penalty in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace just three days prior.

This was his first penalty miss since joining the club in January from Eintracht Frankfurt, and it had cost City dearly as they lost the title to their rivals. However, his performance against Bournemouth served as a redemption for both him and the fans.

After this achievement, the 26-year-old Marmoush becomes the first Manchester City player to win the Goal of the Season award and the second Egyptian, following the marvelous goal of Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah against Man City in 2021/22.

According to City’s official website, Marmoush's goal received the most combined votes by the public and a panel of football experts, topping a shortlist that also featured each of the season's Guinness Goal of the Month winners.

The remarkable goal of the Egyptian international Marmoush surpassed the goals of Carlos Baleba, David Brooks, Jens Cajuste, Jhon Duran, Alexander Isak, Nicolas Jackson, Kaoru Mitoma, Cole Palmer and Harry Wilson.

With the goal against Bournemouth, the former Eintracht Frankfurt forward ended the season with his new team on a high note; scoring eight goals in 21 appearances across all competitions.

Marmoush completed the first half of the 2024–25 Bundesliga season as the second top scorer, behind Kane, with 15 goals, breaking his club's previous record for the Hinrunde set by Theofanis Gekas in the 2010–11 season.

Manchester City ended the English Premier League season in the third place with 71 points, 13 points behind champions Liverpool.
