Pyramids FC etched their name in African football history with a 2-1 win over South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final at Cairo’s Air Defense Stadium. The victory secured a 3-2 aggregate triumph and the club’s first-ever continental title.
Congolese striker Fiston Mayele and defender Ahmed Sami were the heroes of the night, scoring the decisive goals for the Egyptian side. Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners pulled one back for the visitors, but it wasn't enough to deny Pyramids FC their crowning moment.
“We truly deserved this title,” Jurcic told BeIN Sports after the game
“We worked incredibly hard all season, and this trophy is a gift from God for our efforts.”
He also praised his squad for their commitment
“I want to thank the players for everything they’ve done. They truly deserve to be African champions.”
Jurcic highlighted the significance of fan support during the final, noting its positive impact on the team’s performance.
Despite typically drawing only a few hundred fans, Pyramids FC managed to fill nearly half of their 30,000-seat stadium for the decisive match—a turnout Jurcic believes helped push the team over the line.
“I thank the supporters for their presence and their unwavering support. They played a vital role in our victory,” he concluded.
