Speaking during a meeting in Cairo on Monday with Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, El-Sisi called for restraint amid rapidly unfolding regional developments.
“The expansion of conflict would have grave repercussions for the security and resources of all countries and peoples in the region,” El-Sisi said, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
The president also stressed the importance of the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States over Tehran’s nuclear programme, framing diplomacy as essential to preventing further instability.

He further underscored Egypt’s demand for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the urgent need to ensure humanitarian aid can reach the besieged Palestinian enclave.
El-Sisi also highlighted the strategic importance of restoring safe and uninterrupted navigation in the Bab Al-Mandab Strait and the wider Red Sea region, where recent hostilities have threatened maritime security.
In addition to regional security concerns, both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, agreeing to continue pursuing dialogue to explore opportunities for advancing Egyptian-Iranian ties.
For his part, Araghchi praised Egypt’s “pivotal role” in promoting regional stability and expressed Iran’s willingness to deepen consultations with Cairo in the coming period.
This marks Araghchi’s second visit to Egypt since becoming foreign minister in August 2024, following an earlier trip in October of the same year.
