Cairo hosts 4th edition of Africa Health ExCon from 25–27 June.

Africa Health ExCon is Africa's leading annual healthcare event. Backed by the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA), Medical Supply, and Technology Management, it brings together international healthcare leaders, policymakers, and professionals to drive innovation and foster trade across the continent.

According to the UPA's Wednesday press release, this year's edition reflects the event's growing international significance, reinforcing Egypt's role as a regional hub for healthcare in Africa.

Organised in collaboration with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), the 2025 edition will be held under the theme "Innovation and Independence: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Local Manufacturing to Strengthen African Health Systems."

The event will focus on two key pillars: enhancing local manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to achieve self-sufficiency, and integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare systems continent-wide.

These priorities aim to reduce dependence on external imports, advance Africa's health sovereignty, and build more resilient regional healthcare systems.

UPA Chairman Hisham Stait stated, "This year, we are placing a special emphasis on opportunities for intra-African cooperation and integration, driven by our firm belief that achieving health sovereignty in Africa depends on solidarity and collective action."

Stait emphasised that Africa has the talent and resources to achieve self-sufficiency in healthcare, and that this forum is designed to help realise that goal.

Similarly, Executive Director of Africa Health ExCon Kamal Ebeid described the forum as a key launchpad for positioning Egypt as a bridge for African healthcare integration and a regional hub for medical manufacturing and innovation.

Ebeid also noted that as global focus intensifies on AI in healthcare, this year's edition will distinguish itself through strong international partnerships, high-level institutional involvement, and expert participation from around the world to explore practical AI solutions for the continent's health challenges.

For the first time, the 2025 edition will feature the AI pavilion, a dedicated space showcasing cutting-edge developments in medical artificial intelligence.

Major platform for collaboration

This year's edition is expected to draw over 350 companies from across the world and more than 42,700 visitors. Attendees will participate in over 21 panel discussions, technical sessions, and workshops addressing key healthcare topics.

With 22 official sponsors, the 2025 edition is expected to attract wide global attention from investors and experts. Platinum sponsors include Genvax Technologies, Roche Holding AG, GE Healthcare, and Clinilab. Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Opella, and Sanofi are participating as Gold sponsors of the event, while Bayer is a silver sponsor.

UPA Chairman Hisham Stait said, "Over the past editions, Africa Health ExCon has proven to be more than just an annual event — it has become an integrated platform that unites all key players in Africa's healthcare ecosystem."

Building on past success

The fourth edition builds on strong momentum from previous years.

The event's third edition, which took place in 2024, welcomed participants from 142 countries, with 350 exhibitors, 1,410 speakers, and over 300 sessions.

The second edition, 2023, drew nearly 40,000 professionals from 113 countries. In its inaugural edition 2022, the event hosted over 2,000 delegates and over 350 companies from 102 countries.
