With Abu Al-Auf's death, the number of journalists killed in the Gaza Strip has risen to 227 since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza in October 2023, per the Government Media Office in Gaza.

The office also condemned "the systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation.”

Israel targeted Abu Al-Auf during a humanitarian mission on Jaffa Street in the Tuffah neighbourhood.

Cameras documented his appearance alongside paramedics at Al-Shifa Hospital following a rescue operation in the Al-Radwan neighbourhood minutes before Israel bombed them.

According to the Medical Services Directorate, the three paramedics are Hussein Muhaisen, Baraa Afana, and Wael Al-Attar. Israel has killed a total of 40 health workers in the last 25 days alone.
