Downdetector, an online platform that provides 24/7 information about the status of websites and services, saw a surge in reports, with more than 1,400 complaints in the United Kingdom and over 1,000 in the United States.
In Egypt, many users complained about Chat GPT's outage. It is still unclear whether the issue is general or only linked to some users.
The error message reads: “A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists, please contact us through our help centre at help.openai.com.”
Others have reported another message: “Hmm...something seems to have gone wrong.”
People have taken to social media to get updates on ChatGPT's status. The platform has around 400 million weekly users.
OpenAI, the American tech company that developed ChatGPT, stated it is investigating the issue.
“Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services,” the firm's service status page says. “We are investigating.”
Problems appear to have started at 9am British Summer Time (BST) and around 2pm in Egypt.
