A group of Middle Eastern foreign ministers arrived in Norway this week to participate in the annual Oslo Forum, which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, the Norwegian government announced Tuesday.

Oslo Forum

The forum will be held behind closed doors in Lørenskog, about 15 km from the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, along with counterparts Abbas Araghchi from Iran, Asaad Al-Shibani from Syria, Faisal bin Farhan from Saudi Arabia, and Badr Al-Busaidi from Oman, are among the high-level participants.

Since 2003, the Oslo Forum has brought together global leaders, mediators, and conflict actors to discuss crises and foster pathways to peace in a confidential setting.

The forum offers a discreet space for diverse actors to share knowledge, discuss contentious issues, and develop practical ways to address conflicts and geopolitical tensions.

The 2025 Oslo Forum, themed “All hands on deck: mediation in a changing world,” will bring together over 100 global mediators and diplomats to explore new strategies for peace amid rising global instability.

The forum is co-hosted by Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD).

Its agenda includes discussions on ceasefire risks and potentials, the function of back-channel diplomacy, and the difficulty of securing lasting peace amid changing political dynamics.

The 2024 edition, themed “Mediation against all odds,” gathered over 150 participants from 60 countries.

Beyond Norway, the forum also hosts regional retreats worldwide, addressing conflicts and mediation efforts in areas such as the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
