New films across cinemas
Wednesday, 11 June, brought several new films to movie theatres across Egypt:
- The Monster Beneath US, starring Nicola Wright, Becca Hirani, and Jennifer Lim,
- The Ritual, starring Dan Stevens, Al Pacino, and Ashley Greene,
- Riff Raff, starring Bill Murray, Gabrielle Union, Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, and Pete Davidson.
Women's Prison - theatre play
Every day, 8:30pm
Salam Theatre, Qasr El-Aini Str., Cairo
Women's Prison (Segn El-Nesa) is a play by prominent playwright and activist Fathiya El-Assal (1933-2014) that inspired a highly successful 2014 TV series with the same name.
The play, which premiered on 31 March, explores imprisoned women's emotional experiences, delving into their struggles, relationships, and the harsh realities in a patriarchal society.
Youssef Morad directed Women's Prison, which includes large music and choreography segments with compositions by Mohamed Ezzat.
The play features Haidi Abdelkhalek, Hanady Abdelkhalek, Sherihan El-Shazly, Nashwa Hassan, Aya Abu-Zeid, Safy Fahmy, Doaa El-Zeidi, Randa Gamal, Layla Magdy, Lily Mourad, Geni Atwa, Irini Magdy, Walaa El-Gendy, and Ikrami Waziry.

Hotel of the Worlds - theatre play
The play premieres on Thursday, 12 June, and will continue to be staged every day except Tuesdays, 8pm, at Shabab (Youth) Theatre, 9 Khaleeg Al-Khor Str. from Ramses Str., Cairo
Hotel of the Worlds is a play by French writer Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. It explores themes of life, death, and the search for meaning. The play is set in a mysterious hotel where the guests face an unknown fate.
It is a metaphysical suspense drama that delves into the nature of reality and the human condition.
The play has been adapted for Egyptian audiences by Fadi Nashat and directed by Mohamed El-Tayea.

Kingdom of Tales - theatre play
Thursday 12, Friday 13, and Saturday 14 June, 7:30pm
Abdel-Moneim Madbouly Theatre (National Children Theatre), in front of Ataba Metro Station, 26th of July Str., Cairo
Mamlaket El-Hawadeet (Kingdom of Tales) is a play for children written by Walid Kamal and directed by Ehab Nasser. Wael Aouny (known from Masrah Masr) composed the music.
It is a musical, comedic fantasy play, blending imagination and magical storytelling.
The story unfolds in a magical fantasy world where the Kingdom of Tales is threatened by the Joker, an agent of evil who rebels and tries to seize the throne.
Queen Scheherazade chooses a hero from the tales to save the kingdom. The hero embarks on adventures through famous children's tales, which have been turned upside down by the Joker’s wickedness.

Folklorita - music
Friday, 13 June, 8pm
El-Sawy Culturewheel, River Hall, 26th of July Str., Zamalek, Cairo
Folklorita presents covers of songs from the Egyptian heritage.
The group, which consists of 17 performers, relies mainly on voices, percussive instruments, tabla, doholla, and daff, as well as other musicians.
Folklorita’s first concert was in March 2024, and the group has performed at many venues in Egypt ever since.
They have also performed during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Alexandria Short Film Festival and at a special event organized by the EU delegation during the Aswan International Women's Film Festival.
Noha Fekry - music
Friday, 13 June, 8pm
El-Sawy Culturewheel, Wisdom Hall, 26th of July Str., Zamalek, Cairo
Fekry is a well-established singer-songwriter in the Egyptian jazz scene and one of the first Egyptian women to leave a clear mark in this genre.
She released her first single Together in 2007 and her first album A Conversation in 2015.
In her concert, Fekry will combine singing with unique storytelling embraced in her original compositions.
Her songs revolve around various life themes: love, loss, adventure, hope, and joy. They were arranged by Stephen Simon, who blends classical music's elegance with contemporary sound elements.
Religious Song Ensemble - music
Sunday, 15 June, 8pm
Arabic Music Institute, 22 Ramsis Str., Downtown Cairo
Conducted by maestro Hossam Sakr, the concert will feature musicians such as Ashraf Zidan, Belal Mokhtar, Hossam Saleh, Mohamed Hussein, Ibrahim Farouk, Mohamed Nashaat, Ahmed Hassan, and Karim Zidan.
The ensemble, operating under the Cairo Opera House, was founded in 1972 to bring religious chants — whether sung or in their instrumental arrangement — closer to the wide audiences.

ARTicaria - music
Tuesday, 17 June, 9pm
Room Art Space, New Cairo
ARTicaria group consists of four artists from different backgrounds. They share a common goal: entertaining people through music and laughter.
ARTicaria is a unique entertainment show that incorporates music to boost positive energy.
Its lineup includes Ezz Shahwa (bassist, guitarist, and music composer), actress Gilan Alaa, and Bakri Khaled (a Cairo-based Syrian actor, voiceover actor, and scriptwriter).
