The Foreign Ministry issued a statement stressing Egypt’s full solidarity with India and its people in the face of the catastrophe and its heartfelt sympathies to the families of the Indian victims and other nationalities.
The plane carried 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian passenger en route to Gatwick Airport in London.
Authorities have yet to verify the cause of the crash, and Tata Group, the owner of Air India, has activated an emergency center.
According to the Aviation Safety Network database, an AP news report said this is the first crash of a Boeing 787 aircraft.
