In a phone call on Friday, the two leaders discussed the escalating tensions and said coordinated efforts to prevent further violence were urgent.
They also called for adherence to international law amid growing concern over the risk of a wider war.
Israel targeted sites in the Iranian capital early on Friday in what appeared to be a response to Tehran’s earlier missile and drone barrage.
The attack is believed to have focused on infrastructure linked to Iran’s nuclear programme.
Additionally, the leaders discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the status of the postponed French-Saudi conference on Palestinian statehood at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
“While we have to postpone this conference for logistical and security reasons, it will take place as soon as possible,” Macron said at a press briefing in Paris.
The two leaders also discussed economic and trade cooperation, though no new initiatives were announced.
