At least 60 civilians, including 20 children, were killed when an Israeli missile struck a residential tower in Tehran, state-affiliated Fars news agency reported on Saturday, as rescue workers continued to search for bodies beneath the rubble.

State television aired live images from the Shahrak-e Shahid Chamran compound, where a 14-story building collapsed after being hit during predawn Israeli strikes on Friday.

A reporter at the scene said the victims included infants as young as six months old, with ten bodies still believed to be buried under the debris.

The strike was part of a wider Israeli assault targeting military and nuclear sites across Iran.

Fars news agency reported a new round of strikes on Saturday in East Azerbaijan, Lorestan, and Kermanshah provinces.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Saeed Iravani, told the Security Council late on Friday that at least 78 people had been killed and more than 320 wounded in the attacks.

Israel claimed it destroyed nuclear infrastructure, including the Natanz uranium enrichment facility. It killed nine Iranian scientists — up from an earlier figure of six — but has not commented on civilian casualties.
