President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed on the urgent need to halt military actions between Israel and Iran and resume US-Iran negotiations, mediated by Oman, as the only path to a peaceful resolution of the current crisis.

In a phone call, the two leaders warned that the Israeli escalation in the region could have catastrophic consequences for regional security and stability, endangering the region’s resources and people’s well-being.

They stressed that the Israeli escalation threatens to plunge the Middle East into chaos, with all countries bearing the consequences without exception.

According to a presidential statement, President El-Sisi underscored the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach that addresses all security concerns to ensure nuclear non-proliferation in the region

The Egyptian president emphasized the need for universal adoption of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), particularly in the Middle East, and the establishment of a region free of weapons of mass destruction, which comprises all countries.

The call between the Egyptian and Turkish leaders came amid rising regional tensions after Israel carried out attacks on Friday before Iran retaliated on Saturday.

On Friday, Israel launched a series of strikes targeting Iranian facilities linked to nuclear development, military infrastructure, and residential areas, killing senior military commanders and tens of civilians.

On Saturday, Iran retaliated by launching hundreds of missiles at the heartland of Israel, killing three and wounding tens.

On Friday, Cairo and Ankara, as well as various regional powers, condemned the Israeli attacks on Iran as a dangerous escalation that threatens to shatter regional security.

On Saturday, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi announced that the next round of US-Iran nuclear talks, scheduled for Sunday, would not proceed after Tehran said that the Israeli attacks had rendered any talks moot at this point.

El-Sisi reaffirmed that a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue—through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital—remains the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace and regional stability.

He emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip—a stance backed by the Turkish president.

The two presidents agreed on their complete rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land or the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, affirming the continuation of consultations, coordination, and joint efforts to restore regional stability.

Over the last two days, the Israeli army killed 90 Palestinians and wounded more than 600 in strikes across Gaza, pushing the death toll over 55,000 and nearly 128,426 injured since the start of its genocidal war on the strip in October 2023.
