During a phone call with the French foreign minister, Abdelatty stressed the need for regional and international efforts to halt the escalation between Israel and Iran to prevent the conflict from further expansion, a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.

FM Abdelatty warned against the dire consequences such escalation could have on the region's security and stability.

"There is no alternative to political and diplomatic solutions to de-escalate the tension, establish a ceasefire, and resume negotiations concerning the Iranian nuclear programme," he affirmed.

Egypt’s top diplomat also stressed that the current military escalation should not take our eyes off the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Furthermore, he underlined the importance of intensifying efforts to reinstate a Gaza ceasefire, highlighting Egypt’s mediation role in coordination with Qatar and the United States.

He also stressed the urgency of ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the strip to alleviate the Palestinians' suffering and working towards a political solution for the Palestinian issue and establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Abdelatty expressed hope that the European countries would recognize the State of Palestine, describing such recognition as a key pillar for achieving peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.

During another call with the British national security advisor, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to halt the Israel-Iran escalation, highlighting that all parties must practice self-restraint.

He also underscored the responsibility of the E3 group (France, Germany, and the UK) to open channels of dialogue and negotiation with the Iranian side, utilizing all available diplomatic avenues to reach compromises that could lead to de-escalation.

In this respect, POLITICO reported that the European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, will join her E3 counterparts for talks with the Iranian foreign minister in Geneva on Friday.

“The aim is to discuss the latest developments and urge Iran to return to the negotiating table,” POLITICO quoted a European official as saying.

According to the statement, the French and British officials commended Egypt’s efforts to address the current regional escalation and solve the Palestinian issue.

Abdelatty agreed with the French and British officials to maintain ongoing cooperation to prevent further regional escalation and use all available diplomatic pathways to help de-escalate the situation.

The calls align with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's directives to intensify diplomatic efforts to halt the military escalation between Israel and Iran.

Over the past 48 hours, Abdelatty held extensive talks with many Arab and Western counterparts in a bid to push Israel and Iran back to the negotiation table and reach an end to the Gaza war.

He held talks with his Iranian, Iraqi, Saudi Arabian, Bahraini, Chinese, Russian, and Irish counterparts.

This week, FM Abdelatty also exchanged views twice with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and held a call with US Presidential Adviser Massad Boulos.
