Sailors beware! Strong winds, high waves to disrupt Egypt’s coastal waters this week

Maritime navigation along Egypt’s northern coast is expected to face significant disruption from Sunday through Friday due to strong winds and high waves, with the worst conditions forecast between early Sunday and Monday evening.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warns that seas will be particularly rough between 2 am Sunday and 6 pm Monday in coastal areas like Matrouh, Alamein, Alexandria, Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, Dakahlia, and Damietta, where wind speeds may reach 75 km/h and waves could rise up to 4 meters.

So if you're planning a sea journey, it may be wise to delay.

Strong winds are also expected on Sunday across the northern coasts, Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, northern Upper Egypt, and areas like Halayeb and Shalateen. Starting Monday, winds will affect many parts of the country intermittently throughout the week.

While the seas turn rough, a heatwave is set to grip much of the country, with hot to extremely hot and humid conditions expected during the day.

In Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta, expect daytime highs of 37 °C on Sunday, gradually easing to 35 °C by the weekend.

Northern coastal areas will feel slightly cooler, with highs fluctuating between 31 °C and 30 °C.

In northern Upper Egypt, the heat will peak at 40 °C on Sunday, dipping slightly to 38 °C by the end of the week.

Egypt’s deep south will sizzle, with temperatures hitting 42 °C on Sunday and rising to 43 °C by Friday.

South Sinai will see highs swinging between 38 °C and 39 °C, making beach escapes in places like Sharm El-Sheikh only marginally cooler than the mainland.

Don’t let the numbers fool you — thanks to high humidity, it’s going to feel even hotter than the thermometer says.
