The move comes under directives from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), which has been monitoring the fallout from the blaze that knocked out internet and phone services across the country for at least three days.

Telecom Egypt (WE), the state-owned operator, said landline internet customers would receive 10 GB of free data, while mobile customers would get 1 GB. The company announced on social media and thanked users for their patience.

Vodafone customers have also started receiving SMS messages confirming compensation. Users with restored landline internet are being given an extra 10 GB on their Home DSL plans, valid for seven days, accessible by dialling *282877#. Affected mobile customers are receiving 5GB of free data for seven days, claimable via *206#.

Orange users were offered 5GB of data for one week, redeemable with #2525#, while Etisalat and e& customers reported receiving 2GB valid for two days via 1555#.

Still, some customers across networks say they’ve received no notification despite experiencing disruptions.

The fire broke out Monday afternoon on the seventh floor of the Ramses Exchange, a critical node in Egypt’s telecom infrastructure. Four workers were killed and at least 27 others injured, according to official statements.

Preliminary investigations point to an electrical short circuit as the cause, though the full technical report has not yet been released.
