The Cairo giants bounced back from last week’s 2-2 draw with Modern Sport in their opening fixture.
“The reason behind Ahly’s attacking success is the rising performance of many players and their remarkable talent, which allow us to put more pressure on opponents. There is also a coach and a strategy, and we are marching on the competition’s right track,” the Spanish coach told reporters after the match.
He congratulated both the players and fans, stressing the importance of the win, particularly as Ahly dominated the midfield and struck twice before halftime.
“We told the players during the break that the result was not satisfying, and after scoring the third goal the performance dropped as there was a kind of slackness among the players, which is not what we wanted,” Riveiro said.
He also underlined that his team selections are not influenced by media or fan pressure, adding that he remains fully satisfied with the squad’s collective performance.
Ahly’s next game will be against Ghazl El-Mahalla on Monday, 25 August.
The Red Devils will sit out the third round of league matches next week.
