Egypt rejects Palestinians displacement, ‘Greater Israel’ illusions: FM Abdelatty at Rafah crossing

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its rejection of the "Greater Israel" illusions and any attempts to displace Palestinians, whether through scorched-earth policies, creating uninhabitable conditions, or settlement expansion.

FM Abdelatty said this in a joint press conference with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mostafa during their visit to the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing on Monday.

The Palestinian delegation's visit, led by PM Mostafa, aims to review aid mechanisms and the humanitarian situation in North Sinai.

During the presser, Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt’s position on the Palestinian cause is firm and unchanging.

"Egypt categorically rejects any attempts or plans to displace Palestinians or prevent them from their right to stay on their land," he added.

He condemned the Israeli policies aimed at “imposing a new political or demographic reality to liquidate the Palestinian cause, including declared intentions to remain in Gaza under any pretext, calls to annexe the West Bank, or the illusions of a so-called 'Greater Israel'."

Conversely, he commended the resilience of the Palestinian people: “We stand with you in your suffering, your steadfastness, and your perseverance for your land.”

Abdelatty said his presence with the Palestinian premier at the Rafah crossing “is more than a symbolic gesture; it is a confirmation that Egypt has been, and will remain, a supporter of the brotherly Palestinian people in the legitimate pursuit of their inalienable rights.”

This includes their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, he added.

“The killing, destruction, and devastation the steadfast Palestinian people are facing in the Gaza Strip —along with the unprecedented humanitarian tragedy they are experiencing due to the stifling Israeli blockade, systematic starvation, and ongoing military escalation for nearly two years — are an open wound in the conscience of humanity,” Abdelatty stated.

He accused Tel Aviv of violating all international laws and norms, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention, which imposes on Israel, as the occupying power, the duty to protect civilians and provide for their basic humanitarian needs, not to punish them collectively.

The Israeli war machine, Abdelatty added, has systematically targeted civilians and infrastructure and even attacked those seeking aid in distribution centres.

It has even starved innocent children to death. They die from malnutrition, lack of medicine, and the spread of diseases and epidemics in Gaza, he asserted.

Abdelatty reiterated President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's statement that Egypt will never participate in any historic injustice against the Palestinian people, highlighting Cairo's ongoing efforts since the beginning of the war to push for a ceasefire, protect civilians, and guarantee aid flows into the strip.

This includes, he noted, Egypt’s mediation efforts, along with Qatar and the US, and diplomatic contacts with regional and international partners to end the war.

He also spotlighted the country’s efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, noting that Egypt alone has contributed approximately 70 percent of the total humanitarian aid that has entered the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

Egypt has also received over 18,000 wounded and injured Palestinians and their companions in over 172 Egyptian hospitals across various governorates.

In addition, Abdelatty denounced Israel’s restrictions on aid delivery, especially since it seized control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing in May 2024.

He indicated that from 27 July to 17 August 2025, only 1,288 trucks entered the Gaza Strip through the Karm Abu Salem crossing — one of Gaza’s five land crossings, all of which are under Israeli control.

Gaza needs at least 700 to 900 trucks per day to meet the humanitarian and medical needs of the population, he stressed.

"The needs of the starving Palestinian people, who are thirsty for a drop of water, can only be fulfilled by flooding the Gaza Strip with urgent aid, without all the restrictions and obstacles placed by the Israeli occupation authorities in the way of aid flow."

He affirmed that over 5,000 aid trucks are still waiting on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, hindered by the Israeli occupation authorities' deliberate delays.

"We are ready and fully prepared to flood the Gaza Strip with urgent humanitarian and medical aid," Abdelatty asserted. "All we need is for the obstacles, barriers, and restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation to be removed."

Additionally, he criticized the international community's disregard for the closure of the other four crossings connecting Israel and Gaza.

He explained that under the Fourth Geneva Convention, Israel, as the occupying power, has a legal responsibility to open these crossings.

"Unfortunately, Israel does not open them, and the international community does not exert the necessary pressure," he said. "They only talk about the Rafah crossing, which is designated for the passage of individuals."

Egypt’s top diplomat also commended the recognition of a Palestinian state by Spain, Norway, Slovenia, and Ireland and welcomed pledges made by Britain, France, Malta, Portugal, Australia, and Canada to take the same step in September.
