Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) condemned a hate crime targeting the Central Oxford Mosque, United Kingdom, after an unknown individual placed pork meat and an Israeli flag at its entrance.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the AOCE—an initiative launched by Egypt’s Al-Azhar in 2015 to correct misconceptions about Islam—described the act as "provocative" and a "direct threat to social harmony."

The observatory added that such incidents "fuel hatred and deepen divisions within British society."

In a statement posted on social media, the mosque said the pork had been found on door handles and the flag attached to one of the building's doors.

The incident has been under investigation by the authorities.

Thames Valley Police Chief Superintendent Ben Clark denounced the incident as  “an act intended to harass and insult worshippers.” He pledged to do everything possible to bring the perpetrator to justice.

“There is no place for such behaviour in our community,” Clark asserted.

Al-Azhar Observatory emphasized that hate crimes of this nature not only target Muslims but also endanger broader social cohesion.

It also warned of the dangers of normalizing hostility and intolerance in multicultural societies like Britain.
