$7.5 bln new Qatari investments in Egypt to be unveiled soon: FM Abdelatty

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced on Thursday that Qatar plans to invest $7.5 billion in various projects in Egypt.

This announcement was made during a joint press conference with his Qatari counterpart and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, following their meeting in Alamein.

"The investment package will be unveiled within a few weeks, in a major ceremony that reflects the depth of ties between the two brotherly nations," added FM  Abdelatty.

He said the talks with the Qatari Foreign Minister focused on bolstering cooperation between the two nations, noting that trade exchange between Egypt and Qatar increased by 54 percent in the past year.

Abdelatty also reviewed promising opportunities in the Egyptian market in light of the comprehensive reforms adopted by the state to foster an enabling environment for investors.

He noted that investors have shown growing interest in sectors such as agriculture, food security, tourism, hospitality, and new and renewable energy.

Sources have informed Egyptian media that the Qatari investment package will focus on tourism, real estate, food security, and development projects on the North Coast.

Earlier Thursday, the Qatari PM met with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in Alamein.
