Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said contacts are continuing with Israel and the United States to convince them that “there is no alternative to releasing the hostages except through a truce deal,” noting that the current proposal is based on a framework initially put forward by US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

In an exclusive statement to Al-Qahera News, Egypt’s efforts, in coordination with Qatar, to secure a ceasefire in Gaza are ongoing despite what he described as Israel’s “unacceptable and unjustified disregard” for a proposed prisoner and detainee exchange deal in the Strip.

He added that Egypt will continue to exert pressure on all parties, including the United States and the European Union, affirming that Cairo will not cease its efforts until the deal is implemented.

The Foreign Minister explained that the 60-day truce/prisoner-swap deal, put forward by Cairo and Doha, is designed to pave the way for “a comprehensive agreement that ends the aggression on Gaza and lays the foundation for the post-war phase.”

Earlier Thursday, in a press conference following their meeting in Alamein, FM Abdelatty and his Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani reiterated that Cairo and Doha are pushing for a ceasefire to end the genocide in Gaza.

Last week, Hamas accepted a proposal put forward by Egyptian and Qatari mediators for a 60-day truce/prisoner exchange deal between Israel and the Palestinian group, which Tel Aviv previously agreed to.

The Egyptian-Qatari push for a truce deal comes as the Israeli occupation army intensified a military campaign to invade Gaza City and ethnically cleanse more than one million Palestinians to the south of the strip.

Israel has yet to deliver an official response to the latest Egyptian-Qatari truce proposal.
