Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty
Abdelatty’s phone calls included his counterparts from Iran, along with the E3 group foreign ministers, in addition to the US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
The E3 group -comprising the UK, France, and Germany- serves as a key European bloc in global diplomacy, particularly on the Iranian nuclear programme.
The Egyptian FM discussions follow a recent move by the UK, France, and Germany to reimpose the United Nations (UN) sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme.
The move, which starts a 30-day clock for sanctions to return, would freeze Iranian assets abroad, halt arms deals with Tehran and penalise any development of Iran's ballistic missile programme.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty’s discussions aimed at narrowing differences among concerned parties to achieve a lasting and consensual settlement that protects the interests of all parties regarding the Iranian nuclear file.
The Egyptian FM phone calls come within Cairo’s intensive efforts, in coordination with relevant international actors, aimed at supporting dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
