Two Israeli men were killed on Thursday in a suspected shooting attack near the Allenby Crossing, also known as King Hussein Bridge or Karameh Crossing, between the West Bank and Jordan, Israeli media reported.

The assailant was “neutralized,” and Israeli security forces are searching the area for additional suspects, according to the Times of Israel.

Some Israeli media reports said the attacker arrived from Jordan inside an aid truck heading to the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Army Radio reported that the forces immediately closed the crossing, dispatched military reinforcements to the area, and began extensive combing operations in anticipation of the presence of two more crossings.

The attacker was reportedly a retired Jordanian soldier who drove a truck to the crossing, opened fire at close range, and then carried out a stabbing assault. No further details were released.

In a statement, the Israeli army confirmed it had received a report of a shooting and was investigating.

In turn, the Jordanian government spokesperson said Amman is closely monitoring reports of a security incident on the opposite side of the Karama crossing, known in Israel as the Allenby Bridge.

The incident comes against the backdrop of a similar attack in September 2024, when three Israelis were shot dead at the Allenby Crossing.

At the time, Israeli forces said the gunman had driven a truck from the Jordanian side and opened fire before being killed in a shootout.

The assailant was later identified as Maher Al-Jazi, a retired Jordanian soldier from Athroh, a town in the impoverished Ma’an region.

Jordanian state-run Petra News Agency reported that he had been transporting goods to the West Bank, while the Interior Ministry described the shooting as an “individual act” based on initial investigations.
