Small fire contained behind Ramses Central in Downtown Cairo
Firefighters extinguished a minor fire that broke out on Thursday in waste materials behind Ramses Central, the country's largest telecommunications hub, in downtown Cairo, with no injuries reported.
According to security sources, firefighting trucks vehicles were immediately dispatched to the scene after Cairo’s emergency operations room received a report of smoke rising from debris near Ramses Central.
The Ramses Central telecommunications exchange building has been undergoing extensive restoration works after a huge fire in July.
The fire, which erupted in server rooms on the seventh floor before spreading throughout the building, caused severe damage and led to widespread disruption of internet and phone services.
The blaze claimed the lives of four workers and injured at least 27 others.
