The Spanish royals toured the Luxor Museum, where Spanish archaeologists presented several pieces discovered during their excavations carried out as part of archaeological projects.

The royal couple then visited the Valley of the Kings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, where they explored the tombs of Ramses V, Ramses VI, and Seti I.

They also toured the excavation site of the Temple of Millions of Years of Thutmose III project, where tombs spanning four historical periods of Egyptian history were discovered.

The royal couple were briefed on the Djehuty Project, a 25-year-long Spanish mission dedicated to excavating, restoring, and documenting funerary monuments and burials in Dra Abu el-Naga.

Additionally, King Felipe VI signed the guest book at Luxor’s historic Winter Palace hotel, writing: “A wonderful stay in Luxor at the Winter Palace. We hope to come back. Spain and Egypt are so close.”

The tour underscored Spain’s role in preserving Egypt’s archaeological sites and highlighted the growing cultural cooperation between the two nations.

On Thursday, the Spanish royals arrived in Luxor, where they inaugurated a new night-lighting system at the Temple of Hatshepsut, accompanied by Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy.

On Tuesday, the royal couple arrived in Cairo, accompanied by Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, on their first state visit to Egypt since King Felipe’s accession to the throne in 2014.
