Ahram Online breaks down five talking points from the round:
Ahly return to winning ways
After nearly a month without victory, Ahly finally halted their slide with a scrappy 1-0 win over Ceramica Cleopatra.
The result ended a three-game winless run and lifted the holders six places up the table to 10th on nine points. Ceramica Cleopatra dropped to eighth on 10 points.
Ahly’s last win had come in round two with a 4-1 rout of Pharco FC, followed by two draws and a defeat.
Zamalek keep rolling
Zamalek consolidated their grip on first place with a 2-0 win over Ismaily, their second successive victory. The Whites had already impressed in round six with a 3-0 dismantling of Masry to claim the summit.
They now lead the league on 16 points from seven games, two clear of Masry, who beat Ghazl El-Mahalla 2-1 on Wednesday.
Fewers goals after record round
After last week’s goal glut, matchday seven saw a dip in scoring, with 18 goals across 10 games, an average of 1.8 per game. That was three fewer than round six, the highest-scoring week of the season so far.
Masry’s Algerian striker, Abderrahim Deghmoum, remains the league’s top scorer with four goals, despite drawing a blank against El-Mahalla.
Milestones for El-Mahalla and Kahraba Ismailia
Ghazl El-Mahalla tasted defeat for the first time this season, falling 2-1 to Masry. Newly promoted Kahraba Ismailia, meanwhile, celebrated their maiden top-flight victory with a 1-0 win over Ittihad of Alexandria.
Ittihad sack Sami after poor run
Ittihad responded to that loss by dismissing coach Ahmed Sami, their fourth defeat of the campaign. Sami, appointed in June, left the team 17th in the table with just one win, two draws and four defeats from seven matches.
He becomes the third managerial casualty of the season after Ahly’s Jose Riveiro and NBE Club’s Tarek Mostafa. The Alexandria club named Tamer Mostafa as his replacement on Saturday.
