The 50-year-old takes charge with Ittihad sitting 17th in the Egyptian Premier League on just five points, having won once in seven games.

Sami, who was dismissed following Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Kahraba Ismailia, had overseen one win, two draws and four losses since taking over in June.

Mostafa, a former Arab Contractors midfielder, has managed a string of domestic clubs including El Minya SC, Suez SC, Qanah, El Makasa, Gouna, Telecom Egypt SC, Enppi SC, Modern Future, and Ismaily.

He left Ismaily in June after a brief four-month spell.

His first test will come on Monday when Ittihad face ZED in the league.
